You know what happens when you ASSUME..

A lot of you all commented on the post Um….No, It’s Naturally Like This. And I have to admit some of your stories were quite funny. Here are two that were HILARIOUS! I could just picture these scenes playing out…

A young black girl came up to me in line at the movie concession stand and asked "What kind is that?" I had NO idea what she was talking about so I was the one to stare blankly. She was like, "What kind of hair?" I told her it was mine, now shocked, she simply said "oh" and walked away :-o

I get that when I wear my puff. Since it's so massive folks are like “Where did you buy it?” When I told a woman it was mine she responded “…ok...but they do sell it at the beauty supply?” I was like “I'm sure they do”.

Thanks to ALL of you who commented! But these comments got me to thinking; it is SO EXTREMELY SAD how wholeheartedly we have accepted our natural hairs inferiority as black women. I mean it is  REALLY sad that black women ASSUME that the only way our hair can look nice and thrive is through the aid of relaxers, weaves and wigs. And for it to obviously be “okay” to walk up to someone and inquire about their weave, just shows how out of control this whole weave thing is…

This is when I would usually become stressed and feel the weight of my sisters mental oppression weighing on me. But today, I’m just going to say, “Thank God I’M NATURAL!!” and YOU are too!

But what DO YOU THINK about this whole weave epidemic? Do you think it is out of control?

i personally think it's extremely out of control. i wore weaves for a very long time and the hair i had underneath was very damaged. i would take the time to brush, comb and moisturize fake hair! where is the sense in that? when i took my weave out to wash my own hair i was appalled at what i saw in the mirror. i had to take back control of my life and to do that i had to let a toxic man go (hello!) and get rid of this idea that i am not beautiful without hair flowing down my back. :)

Yeah, way out of control. I knew it was really out of control when they started selling braid hair in the grocery store! Now that's a hot mess.

it is out of control. My little sister is 19 and came visiting with a weave. I was stunned. Now she has natural hair but she will never be caught dead with it as she thinks poorly of it. No matter what I tell her, she won't listen and thinks her hair is the worst..sigh
