Yes! You read the title correctly, I really CAN'T help myself, I am getting a hair cut TODAY!! The photo above is my inspiration.
Heres the deal...I like my hair short. There. I said it. I am super shocked by this fact. When I first cut all my hair off, I was more afraid of having short hair than I was about the actual texture. I thought I could only look good with long hair!
It was sad y'all. I was so brain washed that I would literally sleep (sometimes) with a half wig on so I could feel attractive. I foolishly believed that my husband wanted me to have long flowing tresses, so I would wear it to bed at night (even though I wouldn't let him touch it). Sad, I know. At that time, Long hair = glamor. Long hair= beauty. Long hair = worthiness.
Boy am I glad those self-depreciating thoughts and days are over!
Now after a year and 4 months of being natural, I am in LOVE with my short hair. It brings out the features in my face more. Not to mention, it's different. With so many women killing themselves and depleting their bank accounts to be have long flowing hair, I enjoy stepping out with my short natural, looking fly and turning heads. I LOVE IT!!!
I went natural to lessen the importance my hair played in my feelings of self worth. I also wanted to spend less time maintaining my hair. Going natural was all about NOT obsessing over my hair. I am finding that short hair allows me to do those things. The longer is gets the more effort I'll have to put into it and I can't say I am looking forward to it. I am not saying that I will NEVER grow my hair, but for now I'm having too much fun with it short.
And besides what's the rush? Like I told M the other day, I have the rest of my life to grow my hair, and it's not like having longer hair is going to qualify me for a discount on groceries, so there really is no reason to speed ball towards bigger hair.
On that note I am headed to the barber shop today for a cut. The main objective is to get rid of some of the bulkiness on the sides and in the back. I like the volume to be on top of my head, and as a result I have been spending WAY TOO MUCH time styling my hair to appear that way. The last cut I got was nice, but this time I'm going to push it a little further.
At the time I got the last cut I was still trying to hold on to my hair. I wasn't sure how I felt just yet so I played it safe. Since then,I have come to the aforementioned conclusions, so now I am ready!
I debated whether I should go to a salon and have a woman cut it, but decided to stick with my barber. I'll let you all know how it turns out! Wish me luck.
In the mean time, are you obsessed with length? Have you recently gotten over an obsession with length? Did you do a DRASTIC big chop and ended up falling in love with short hair? Have you ever slept in a wig? As always, I want to know! Please share.

Sunshine you are spot on! I fell in love with my short hair as well and have been battling whether or not I should let it grow out. I too have a tapered TWA and I can't stop cutting it ! My husband would prefer I grow it out to its previous natural length but he always says that whatever makes me happy will make him too. Gotta love that man! All the best with your cut... I might be right behind you in the salon chair lol!
@CANDACE -lol
I'm glad you feel me on this one. Thanks for reading and commenting.
yay for the haircut. I am also tempted to go back to a twa! Actually I've also been undecided between locs and fro and now I realized that I am not interested in having long hair. I loove shrinkage and short hair!
