In efforts to not be a Product Junky, I am always looking for home recipes to try on my hair. It's fun! It's inexpensive! And it's like going to a fancy upscale Spa without the fancy upscale Spa!
This weekend I tried a Banana and Honey Conditioner I read about. I wasn't planning on doing this treatment this weekend but there was one lone banana sitting on my kitchen counter ready for the trash can. I picked it up and was just about to chuck it when the recipe flashed in my mind. I hate throwing away food, so this was perfect!
All you need is 1/2 of a ripened Banana and 1/3 cup honey and a little baking soda. Put all the ingredients in a blender. Blend 'til you get a smooth texture. Voila' you've got conditioner! Adding the baking soda will help get the honey out when it is time to rinse. The baking soda will also help define your curls and reduce frizz.
I applied the mixture all over my head and then put on a plastic cap. I then let the mixture sit on my hair for about an hour.
As soon as I put it on I could see the curls in my hair begin to separate. They looked really pretty and plump (despite the gunk all over them!) My hair immediately looked silkier.

The Egyptians were definitely on the right track with their use of honey in their beauty recipes. Honey is a fabulous natural moisturizer for hair and skin.
Bananas contain tryptophan, a rich amino acid that is known to be extremely beneficial for hair and skin. They are chock full of potassium which adds super softening properties to the hair shaft. Along with vitamins A, B, C and E bananas contain rich natural oils and carbohydrate's. All these goodies shore up the natural elasticity of the hair and prevents split ends.
After having it on my hair for close to an hour I hopped in the shower to rinse it off. I didn't do anything else with my hair. Just rinsed the concoction off and proceeded with styling as normal.
My curls were clearly more defined and were better moisturized than they were pre-treatment. I followed up with my spritzer of Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and water and let my hair air dry.
The end result was a very curly fro with sheen and life!
I highly recommend this treatment. There are always bananas in my house so I think this is going to be my weekly deep conditioner for the next month. Lets see how my ends like it!
Try this recipe out and tell me what you think. Do you have any other recipes you would like to share with us?
On another note I just wanted to add that honey and bananas are also great on Oatmeal! I love this combination. Who would have thought that something so Delicious could be so beneficial for my HAIR. I love natural products. They never cease to amaze me.
Peace Love and Bananas

I really want to try this, it sounds great. I never have bananas but I love them so this will give me a great excuse to get some. I love that you used it in oatmeal, I might have to try that too!
GIRL....I have a new recipe every month with you. Lol. I will try this out in August..for I am trying out a new line of products for my hair...
I love the inexpensiveness of this recipe...I don't have any bananas or honey in the house..but I do know where Wal Mart is at...:)
Do you think I could use a daily version of this as regular conditioner? What natural products would you use to make conditioner?
i JUST tried this any my curls are way more defined than i've ever seen. i had the same problem as well with the bits of banana in my hair, but i loveee it and i hope it drys well.
I tried this last night and loved the results but it took me a few rinses to get the banana out. Have you tried to puree the banana in a blender? I'd like to try that next time to avoid the lumps. Thanks for the recipe!
