Y'all know I am all about finding fabulous products that us naturals can use to stay looking and feeling wonderful, but it also has to be inexpensive and the product should have multiple uses. Today I wanna share with you some info on a product I have personally been sleeping on! I know many of you have it in your house right now........BAKING SODA!!!
HAIR: You know how us naturals should refrain from "washing" our hair in the traditional sense. Most commercial shampoos have nasty chemicals in them which strip our hair of its much needed moisture. And let's be honest most products on the market are not made for you and I anyway. They are for a different texture of hair altogether. So now that we have embraced this new kinky curly texture how are we supposed to keep it clean?!?! Well in addition to pure castile soap, or black soap, I also use BAKING SODA.
Take equal parts BS and your favorite conditioner and tadaaaa, you've got shampoo or in naturals term a "no-poo" hair cleanser. Not only does BS clean your hair with out stripping it of all the God given goodness, it also will help define your curls and make your hair shinier.
In my weekly Honey and Banana Deep conditioning treatment, I added some baking soda. The results were heavenly!!!!!!! I mixed a little BS in with the original recipe (and this time I put it in a blender to avoid the banana bits from lingering in my hair) then I put the mix on my hair, threw on a plastic cap {actually it was a plastic bag from the grocery store, I hate wasting things :)} and then I let it sit on for about an hour. I went through my regimen as usual..........................when I took out the braids my hair was looking sooooo shiny! The curls were definitely more defined and my hair just looked different. I loved it. Hubby even commented that it looked different.
I have also read about some naturals doing a plain baking soda rinse in order to define their curls. If you have any more Baking Soda hair tips please share them with us.
Now that our hair is fresh and clean, and we will undoubtedly be getting many many compliments let's make sure our smile when we say thank you is all pearly white which brings us to Baking Soda and your.......................
TEETH: Try using baking soda as a way to whiten your teeth. I have been using it consistently now for the past week and I have seen some results. Take a wet tooth brush and dip it in some baking soda and brush as normal. This will clean your teeth and get them whiter. Trust me it works!
SO where are we???? Hair..... check, Teeth.........white, now on to........................................
FACE: Are you looking for something that will help make your face feel smoother? I am! I used to use the microderm abrasion stuff that goes for about $50 a pop. But I have found that I get the same results from using baking soda.
The texture of the BS will remove dead skin cells and leave your skin soft and refreshed. It is gentle enough that it can be used daily. I put my cleanser on my face as usual, put a little BS in my palm and massaged it into my face in a circular motion, then rinsed. My skin looked more radiant afterwards and definitely feels smoother! (you can also use it as a all over body exfoliater)
So now thanks to baking soda we're looking and feeling great! One last pit stop before we're ready to head out....
ARM PITS: Baking soda can also be used as deodorant. I don't use it on a daily basis, but when I am in a bind and need to use SOMETHING, BS is always there for me. Just dust it under your pits as needed. The Baking Soda will actually absorb any odor instead of covering it up the way some deodorants do.
So that's it! Whoever knew that the product sitting in your refrigerator had so many uses for your hair and skin and body? And for a fraction of the cost of other products which do the same thing?
Share your baking soda experience with us! DO you have a special recipe that calls for BS? We wanna know so we can try it out too!
Peace Love and Baking Soda,
Sunshine

Hey, I'm here via Hairlista. LalTshi is my name! Anyway I wanted to add that I use baking soda to clean. I take a little vinegar, some water and a little soap (I use or organic dish soap) and put it into a spray bottle. Then I usually dust the baking soda say in the toilet and then spray the water/vinegar/soap mix into the toilet bowl and wait ten minutes. It foams up a bit, I lightly brush away the residue and voila, a clean chemical free toilet! In the bath tub I spray the tub with my mix then sprinkle a little baking soda over it then use a scrubbing brush and gently remove all the dirt...with the spray a little goes a long way...I have quit using any other cleaning products as this mix works for almost everything. Plain vinegar is also good as a window cleaner.
I love baking soda too! I've been using it on my teeth for years. It removes stains. I also use Peroxide which also helps with cleaning teeth. Those are all the whitening you need. Just be careful with using it too much on your teeth because it (baking soda) is abrasive and using it too often can shed layers of your enamel which causes sensitivity. Once a week, once every two weeks, or so is okay I think. Worked as a dental assistant for years.
